Seabreeze Hybrid flooring

#1 · Best overall budget pick

Seabreeze Hybrid

from $29.50/m² · 10 colours

Seabreeze packs a lot into $29.50/m²: 8mm hybrid construction, full waterproofing, P3 slip rating, built-in acoustic underlay and a heavy commercial rating. It floats on a click system, suits wet areas, and needs no separate underlay purchase. A genuinely well-rounded budget floor.

  • Fully waterproof — safe in kitchens, bathrooms and laundries
  • Built-in acoustic underlay saves an extra purchase
  • Heavy commercial rating means it handles busy homes easily
  • Only 10 colour options — narrower range than some picks
  • At 8mm, thinner than 12mm laminate options if subfloor softness is a concern

#2 · Best value hybrid

Metro Hybrid

At $26.50/m², Metro is the most affordable hybrid in the range. It carries the same P3 slip rating, full waterproofing and heavy commercial approval as pricier options, plus built-in acoustic underlay. The 6mm thickness suits relatively flat subfloors and the floating click install is DIY-friendly.

  • Lowest price among waterproof hybrid options
  • Built-in acoustic underlay included
  • Heavy commercial rating despite the budget price
  • 6mm thickness offers less subfloor tolerance than 8mm alternatives
  • Only 8 colour choices

Essential Vinyl plank flooring

#3 · Best for commercial use on a budget

Essential Vinyl plank

from $20.50/m² · 8 colours

Essential vinyl plank at $20.50/m² is the most affordable pick here and carries a heavy commercial rating alongside a P4 slip rating — the highest slip resistance in this shortlist. It is a direct-stick product, so installation requires adhesive, but the running cost per square metre is hard to beat.

  • Lowest price per m² across all picks
  • P4 slip rating — highest slip resistance in this guide
  • Heavy commercial approved for high-traffic spaces
  • 2mm thickness — direct stick only, not suitable for uneven subfloors
  • No built-in underlay; adhesive and prep costs add to overall spend

#4 · Best budget laminate

Terrain Laminate

from $24.50/m² · 8 colours

Terrain is an 8mm AC4 laminate at $24.50/m² with a medium commercial rating, floating click install and AAAC acoustic performance. It is water-resistant rather than waterproof, so keep it away from wet areas, but for bedrooms, hallways and living rooms it delivers honest value at the lowest laminate price in the range.

  • Lowest price of all laminate options
  • AC4 wear rating suits medium commercial and busy households
  • AAAC acoustic rating — works well in multi-storey homes with suitable underlay
  • Water-resistant only — not suitable for kitchens, bathrooms or laundries
  • Separate acoustic underlay required and sold additionally

Tidewater is a 12mm AC4 laminate at $29.50/m² with a medium commercial rating, P3 slip rating and AAAC acoustic performance. It is one of the few laminates in this price bracket offering both a slip rating and confirmed acoustic credentials — useful in apartments or homes where noise transmission matters.

  • P3 slip rating — notable for a laminate at this price
  • 12mm thickness provides a solid, comfortable underfoot feel
  • AAAC acoustic rating with compatible underlays
  • Water-resistant only — not suitable for wet areas
  • Narrower colour palette of 12 options

It is 4.5mm thick, fully waterproof, P3 slip-rated, AAAC acoustic-rated and has built-in underlay. For a wet-area-safe, DIY-friendly vinyl plank with no underlay to buy separately, it earns its place.

Waterproof vs water-resistant: why it matters for budget floors

Budget shoppers often treat 'waterproof' and 'water-resistant' as the same thing — they are not. Hybrid and vinyl plank ranges such as Seabreeze, Metro, Essential and Coastline are fully waterproof through the entire board, making them safe for kitchens, bathrooms and laundries where water can sit or splash regularly.

Laminate options including Terrain, Summit and Tidewater are described as water-resistant, meaning the surface repels minor spills if wiped promptly, but the core is not impervious to moisture sitting long-term. For dry living areas, bedrooms and hallways these laminates perform well. For wet areas, choose a fully waterproof hybrid or vinyl plank instead.

What else to budget for beyond the floor price

Every price in this guide is a supply-only per-m² figure. When you plan your total budget, remember to account for underlay (where it is not built in), adhesive for direct-stick products like Essential and Sanctuary, and finishing accessories such as scotia, trims, reducers and end caps. WFA sells all of these. Use the free Room Planner and the per-product box calculator on the website to get accurate box quantities including a waste allowance before you order.

Delivery is weight-based and calculated live at checkout — minimum delivered charge is $97.14 including fuel levy and GST. If you are in Greater Sydney or the Parramatta area, free click-and-collect from the Holroyd depot (24-27 Crescent Street, Holroyd NSW 2142) is usually ready within about 24 hours and cuts freight costs entirely. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.

Answers

Common questions

Is hybrid flooring worth paying more than vinyl plank at this budget level?
It depends on the product. The Metro hybrid at $26.50/m² and Seabreeze at $29.50/m² are both fully waterproof with built-in underlay and heavy commercial ratings, which beats the spec of the budget direct-stick vinyl planks for most homes. If your subfloor is very flat and you are direct-sticking, the Essential vinyl plank at $20.50/m² is hard to beat on pure price.
Do I need to buy underlay separately with these ranges?
Not always. Seabreeze, Metro and Coastline all include built-in acoustic underlay in the board — nothing extra to buy. Essential and Sanctuary are direct-stick products that go straight to the subfloor with adhesive. Terrain, Summit and Tidewater are floating laminates that do require a separate acoustic underlay, which WFA stocks.
Can I use budget laminate in a kitchen or bathroom?
We would not recommend it. Terrain, Summit and Tidewater are water-resistant, not waterproof. Regular exposure to moisture or water sitting on the floor can cause the core to swell over time. For kitchens, bathrooms and laundries, choose a fully waterproof option such as Seabreeze, Metro, Coastline or Essential instead.
How do I work out how many boxes I need to order?
Every product page on the Wholesale Floors Australia website has a built-in box calculator. Enter your room dimensions and it adds a waste allowance and rounds up to whole boxes automatically — floors are sold by the full box. There is also a free multi-room Room Planner on the site if you are flooring several areas at once.
